Office of the VC for Research
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) is dedicated to promoting and supporting research that both enhances CUNY’s mission and stimulates economic development. The OVCR oversees an expanding number of programs and initiatives including:
- providing fellowships and grants for faculty research
- overseeing and supporting faculty entrepreneurship and technology commercialization
- developing state-of the-art science facilities
- fostering research opportunities for students
- ensuring University compliance with all regulations and standards relevant to the responsible conduct of research
Over the last decade, the University has emphasized its commitment to stimulating excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research. The research office is leading this effort by offering programs that support faculty and students at all stages of their careers including a research award in science and engineering for junior faculty, collaborative research grants open to all faculty, a CUNY summer undergraduate research program, coordinating professional science master’s programs, career assistance for postdoctoral scholars.
Through the Technology Commercialization Office and the New York Regional Innovation Node, the research office is also accelerating University efforts to commercialize faculty discoveries, with the added goal of fueling economic growth in New York City and State.
The Vice Chancellor for Research has also directed the development and planning of the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (set to open in fall 2014), which represents the beginning of an even more ambitious era for scientific research at CUNY.
