The Cost of Attendance

Tuition at CUNY varies depending upon the program of study, full-time or part-time status and residency.

Generally speaking: for New York State residents, tuition for full-time students at CUNY's six community colleges is *$3,900. At the 11 senior colleges, the undergraduate tuition rate is *$5,430 per year. For out-of-state residents, including international students and some undocumented students, community college tuition is *$260 per credit and senior college tuition is *$485 per credit for undergraduate programs. For more details, please visit www.cuny.edu and click on "Admissions and Financial Aid."

Please note that under New York State law, you qualify for the resident or "instate" tuition rate regardless of your immigration status and the length of time you have lived in New York State, if you: a) were enrolled in CUNY for the Fall 2001 semester, and qualified for in-state tuition at that time; b) attended a New York State high school for two or more years, graduated, and applied to attend CUNY within five years of receiving a New York State diploma; or c) received a New York State Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED), and applied to attend CUNY within five years of receiving your GED. To get in-state tuition, undocumented immigrants must file an affidavit stating that they have applied to legalize their status, OR that they will apply to do so as soon as they are eligible. CUNY colleges provide students with sample affidavits.

The federal, state and New York City government provide financial assistance to students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, asylees or refugees. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, loans, and college work-study. You must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for every academic year in order to be considered for financial aid. Submitting the FAFSA also generates an application for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) awards. More detailed information regarding various forms of financial aid is available at www.cuny.edu.
