World-Class Faculty, Student Award Winners
With a flourishing reputation among students and educators alike, The City University of New York now serves a record number of students — nearly 271,000 — including more high achievers with high school GPAs of 85 or more, drawn by quality academic opportunities and degrees that deliver in the marketplace. New initiatives — including the CUNY School of Public Health at Hunter College, the New Community College, the CUNY School of Journalism and a laser-like focus on the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics — reflect a resurgent CUNY reaching for the stars. Of stars, we have plenty: Our world-class faculty, from scientists to fiction writers, includes some of the most creative minds teaching today. Our students, in recent years, have earned top accolades: four Rhodes Scholarships, seven Truman Scholarships, eight Goldwater Scholarships, numerous National Science Foundation graduate fellowships and other prestigious awards and fellowships.
