NYC HANES is conducted by the CUNY School of Public Health and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The CUNY School of Public Health works with communities, nonprofits, private groups and government agencies to help people live healthier lives. It conducts research and creates new models of public health education and practice to solve urban health problems. It is part of CUNY, the nation's largest urban public university.

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, one of the world's oldest and largest public health agencies, protects and promotes the health of New Yorkers. In recent years, the agency has undertaken a number of innovative policy and program initiatives to improve health, including a comprehensive tobacco control program, the elimination of trans fats in restaurant food, a requirement for chain restaurants to post calorie information on menu boards and development of an extensive electronic health record network.
