To The City University of New York Community,
Every year the CUNY Campaign, conducted in conjunction with the United Way and other community agencies, helps thousands of friends and neighbors across the city access a range of much-needed services. CUNY faculty and staff have always responded enthusiastically to this annual call for help, and I am very grateful for the deep level of caring you express through the campaign.
CUNY's colleges are embedded in the city's communities, so we know firsthand that our country's recession has had a devastating effect on New Yorkers, particularly our city's most vulnerable families. Through the CUNY Campaign, we can give generously to over 1,250 agencies that assist New Yorkers. The 2011-12 CUNY Campaign, "Building Tomorrow Together," is our opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of our neighbors.
This, our 28th CUNY Campaign, follows years of very successful giving efforts. Last year's campaign raised a remarkable $629,251 from almost 3,000 donors, while giving at the Leadership Circle level—gifts of $1,040 or greater—rose to $208,122 with nearly 150 donors.
Almost $250,000 of the total raised last year went to college-based agencies, which support valuable programs in our colleges, such as scholarship funds and campus child development centers. The rest went to local and community groups, including the United Way of New York City.
Donations by the CUNY community improve the health, education, and well-being of New Yorkers across the five boroughs. Through your generosity, families and individuals will continue to have programs and services to turn to throughout the year.
Thank you in advance for your support of the 2011-12 CUNY Campaign.
