I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to serve as the 2012 Chair of the CUNY Campaign for Voluntary Charitable Giving. For nearly thirty years, members of our University community throughout the five boroughs have reached out to those in need through the CUNY Campaign. That need is great: New York City has more people living in poverty than the rest of New York State combined. And the effects of the recession continue to affect many New Yorkers. We all know neighbors and friends whose circumstances have changed; they may have lost jobs or homes and find themselves in a place they never expected to be. They need our help, and the CUNY Campaign exists to provide it.
