Welfare Rights Initiative

COPE students who need information about their welfare rights or assistance with other empowerment issues can contact the Welfare Rights Initiative, developed at the Hunter College Center for the Study of Family Policy to address the absent voice of welfare claimants, negative stereotypes and the need for socially constructive reform.

WRI can assist students with educational, legal, and social services and advocacy programs, as well as provide students the opportunity to participate in leadership development activities. Other services include: on-line and in-person resource centers that provide fair hearing pro se packets; current information; and links to other organizations.

Students can call WRI at 212-650-3592 or visit the website at www.wri-ny.org
