National Grid Interns
Leico Palmer, Kingsborough Community College
"Feeling professionally unsatisfied in my previous career, I decided I needed a change. I decided that in order for me to fully realize my dream of opening up my own nonprofit business I would need to go back to school. On my search, I discovered the ASAP program. This program provided me with a piece of mind by taking the burden of paying for school, books, and transportation while working towards my AAS in Business Administration. If it was not for the ASAP program, I would have never been able to come to school with a mind focused on learning all I can. While at Kingsborough Community College, I was able to excel and maintain a grade point average that qualified me for the National Grid internship and scholarship. My world has been opened up in a way that was not possible and would not have happened if it was not for the ASAP program."
Onita Simmons, Kingsborough Community College
"My name is Onita M. Simmons. I am 19 years old, and I am from Brooklyn, NY. I am a very positive, energetic and goal-oriented individual who loves to teach and learn. My course of study currently at Kingsborough Community College is preparing me for the field of Nursing. My overall career goal is to be a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). I was recently selected as an intern with the Montefiore Medical Center. This internship will help me network, learn, and gain firsthand experience in the setting and workplace I wish to be in as a CRNA. Words cannot explain what it means to me to be accepted for an internship as prestigious as this. I have made my family and peers extremely proud, and I am ready to put my best foot forward and soak up all they have to offer!"
