Kingsborough Community College ASAP
2010 New York Needs You (NYNY) Fellow
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to West Indian parents. I am a proud mother to my two year-old son. When I think of myself, I believe I am determined, driven, a hard worker, and always willing to learn all that life has to teach me.
I currently attend Kingsborough Community College, and I am enrolled in the ASAP program there, pursuing a nursing degree. My long term career goal is to becoming a midwife, and work with women in underprivileged communities. I plan to work hard at the course work that I am taking at Kingsborough Community College, so I can become a phenomenal nurse, and utilize my nursing skills to prepare for a midwifery program.
I am also a recipient of the Kaplan Leadership Scholarship, and it is an exhilarating experience to be apart this program. Kaplan removes barriers that are present in your everyday life and that would hinder your educational success. Kaplan saw the passion I had for my life's goals and gave me the opportunity to still dream big.
My advice to anyone applying for the Kaplan Leadership Program is to be you and be passionate about your career goals. Always think positively. Don't ever limit yourself and your dreams. Lastly, always find a way to give back to your community.
