Loukman Lamany

Bronx Community College

My name is Loukman Lamany and I am originally from Togo, a West-African country. I first came to the United States of America in late 2004 and after more than four years away from school, I decided to go to college. I entered Bronx Community College in Fall 2009 and I had the great opportunity to be part of the Accelerated Study in Associate Program (ASAP).

Originally from a French speaking country, English has been a primary difficulty for me, yet managing school and work and the emotional stress of being far from home were equally difficult. However, with its tuition waiver program, free text books and metrocards, and, more importantly, an academic advisor, ASAP created for me a motivating environment for success. With the help of ASAP, I am succeeding in all my classes while being involved in extracurricular activities to nurture my leadership skills. I was recently admitted to participate in a study abroad program in Salzburg, Austria. I am looking forward to an exciting and formative learning experience. I will finish my associate in science program by the end of Spring 2011, four semesters after I first came to Bronx Community College. My dream is to pursue a higher education; therefore, I am very glad that I am able to complete my degree in just two years. In Fall 2011, I will be joining a senior college to pursue a bachelor's degree and fulfill that dream.
