Finding Your Financial Compass
Project Description
On Wednesday, May 27, 2009, the 2009 LaGuardia ASAP Leadership Team screened the independent film I.O.U.S.A: The Movie, which examines American debt culture and its long-term impact on American society. The move was followed by a panel discussion that included LaGuardia faculty, staff and students.

Darnell Auguste, Carina Nieves, and Geizel Amador; Ingrid De Leon (Advisor Facilitator)
How did you decide on this project, and what do you hope to achieve?
Darnell: It was a group effort. After some discussion, we agreed to focus on the financial area. We hope to provide direction for other students as they consider financial issues.
Geizel: Scholarships and the economic crisis are related issues for college students. We wanted to come up with a project to address the big picture and educate our peers.
Carina: And with recent tuition increases, this seemed to be especially important. We hope to help set up guidelines to help students in their future financial decisions--especially in how they use credit and credit cards.
What have you learned through planning this project together?
Carina: I learned that depending on each other actually brings out the best in us!
Darnell: I've learned to trust myself and others more, and I'm better able to speak freely without being aggressive or shy.
Geizel: We've all learned to compromise and to give opportunities to others.
