STOCS Frequently Asked Questions
When is the deadline?
The deadline to submit applications for the Winter 2013/14 Scholarship is October 8, 2013. It must be post-marked by that date.
Can I turn in my application after the deadline?
No. Due to the competitive nature of the scholarships, only applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.
Can I bring my application to the STOCS office?
No, we can only accept mailed applications. Please mail your application attention to the STOCS program and to the following address: 205 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017
Can my recommender email the recommendation directly to the STOCS office?
Yes, your recommender mail scan/email the recommendation form and letter to the following: international.ed@mail.cuny.edu.
Can you confirm receipt of my application?
Due to the volume of applications submitted, the STOCS office is not able to automatically confirm receipt of all applications. You will be contacted if we are missing a component of your application (e.g., letter of recommendation, transcript or essay)
What is the most important part of the application?
The committee reviews your entire application equally. It is important that your personal statement is well written and addresses how your participation in this particular study abroad program will advance your personal, educational, and/or career goals. You may want to ask one of your professors or a tutor at your college's writing center to review your essay statement before you submit your application.
What is the minimum GPA?
There is no minimum GPA for a STOCS grant. However, all the STOCS-eligible study abroad programs require students to have a minimum GPA that varies from program to program.
When will I find out if I have been awarded a STOCS grant?
Applicants will be notified via email by the week of November 12, 2013
When will I receive my money if I am awarded a STOCS grant?
After award decision have been made, the STOCS program will transfer the grant to the care of the study abroad program office. Please check with your study abroad program director for specifics about how the award will be applied to the program and tuition cost. Please allow up to 8-10 weeks for the entire transfer to take place.
