STOCS Frequently Asked Questions

When is the deadline?
The deadline to submit applications for the Summer 2012 scholarship is March 19, 2012.  Applications must be hand-delivered or post-marked by that date.

Can I turn in my application after the deadline?

No. Due to the competitive nature of the scholarships, only applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.

Can I bring my application to the STOCS office?
Yes. The STOCS program office is located at 535 East 80th Street, New York, NY 10075.  The security desk will direct you the mail room where you can drop off applications.  Please bring your application in an envelope and mark the envelope "To:  STOCS Program."

How do I get to the STOCS office?
By subway, take the 6 line to 77th Street. Walk north to East 80th Street and then east to 535 East 80th (East End Avenue). Alternatively, take the M79 bus from points west in Manhattan to the corner of East 80th and East End Avenue.

What is the most important part of the application?

The committee reviews your entire application equally. It is important that your personal statement is well written and addresses how your participation in this particular study abroad program will advance your personal, educational, and/or career goals. You may want to ask one of your professors or a tutor at your college's writing center to review your essay statement before you submit your application.

What is the minimum GPA?

There is no minimum GPA for a STOCS grant. However, all the STOCS-eligible study abroad programs require students to have a minimum GPA that varies from program to program.

When will I find out if I have been awarded a STOCS grant?

Summer 2012 STOCS award recipients will be notified via email the week of April 23, 2012.

When will I receive my money if I am awarded a STOCS grant?

After award decision have been made, the STOCS program will transfer the grant to the care of the study abroad program office.  Please check with your study abroad program director for specifics about how the award will be applied to the program and tuition cost.  Please allow up to 8-10 weeks for the entire transfer to take place.
