History & Purpose

In May of 2004, the Board of Trustees of The City University of New York unanimously approved its Master Plan 2004-2008. This comprehensive planning document included for the first time in the University's history a "Chancellor's Initiative on the Black Male in Education." »

Campus Involvement

Campuses have developed student-oriented programs dedicated to similar goals as CUNY's Black Male Initiative. »

Distinguished Speaker Series

  • April 22, 2009 - The 1968 Olympics as a Symbol of the Black Power Movement. Panelists: Dr. John Carlos, Dr. Tommie Smith, Vince Matthews and Rev. Mrs. Cynthia James, widow of Larry James, and moderated by Council Member Charles Barron and the Rev. Dr. Herbert Daughtry.
