Flexible Common Core

To reach the required total of 6 courses, students in AA, AS and bachelor’s degree programs must complete at least one course in each of the five Flexible Core areas and an additional sixth course in one of them. Students can complete no more than two courses from any one discipline or interdisciplinary field.* In many cases, colleges will specify how the sixth course must be chosen. This website complements the Pathways websites maintained by the colleges. It is very important that students, faculty, and staff consult their own colleges’ websites.

This list of college links will be updated as colleges finalize their campus guidelines.

Pathways Tip:  In some cases, students can find classes that fulfill Flexible Core requirements that also fulfill requirements for their major. Some math and science courses that satisfy major requirements and Required Core requirements are more than 3 credits, although only 3 credits will count toward the Common Core requirement.
