CUNY Improving Undergraduate Mathematics Learning (IML) Grants
In the spring of 2009, CUNY Central's Office of Academic Affairs put forth a request for proposals (RFP) for evidence-based research projects that could lead to better learning in undergraduate mathematics classrooms. The competition was an opportunity to fund faculty-led research projects and to encourage CUNY faculty members to consider questions or problems they have encountered in helping students learn mathematics. Faculty were encouraged to devise creative solutions or test ones that they had read about, and to develop the means to assess whether the solutions work.
On November 30, 2009, CUNY awarded grants to 10 faculty teams ranging from $32,000 to $86,000, depending on the scope and extent of the proposal. Chosen from a competitive pool, these projects involved 27 faculty from CUNY colleges.
