Solarize Huntington

Solarize Huntington is a group purchasing program that uses a tiered pricing structure, community educational events and outreach, and a competitively-selected installer to reduce the installed cost of solar. As more residents sign on to go solar through Solarize Huntington, the installed cost for all participants goes down.

More solar means more savings

Homeowners in Huntington that participate can either directly purchase a system or enter into a lease or a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the selected installer. Under a lease or PPA, the installer owns, operates, and maintains the system and the homeowner pays for the electricity generated by the system at a pre-determined rate. Under the lease or PPA option, the installer will offer a discount or cash back as higher tiers are reached.

How Solarize Works

  1. Schedule a no obligation site visit.
  2. Get your discounted solar installation price quote.
  3. Sign a contract to have your solar system installed.
  4. Save on your monthly electric bill for years to come.

Solarize Huntington is made possible through a partnership between the City University of New York’s NYSolar Smart Program and the Town of Huntington as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Rooftop Solar Challenge II.

Upcoming Events

During the Fall and winter of 2014, there will be “Solar 101” educational sessions, a booth with local volunteers at festivals and markets, and opportunities to meet the selected installer. Stay tuned for a calendar of events.

A Timely Program

Solarize programs are open for a specific time period, generally for three to four months. Huntington is expected to announce the opening of Solarize Huntington shortly.

Request for Proposals for Solar Installers now open

Sustainable CUNY is seeking the participation of firms that specialize in solar photovoltaics. Installers may submit competitive, tiered pricing for a direct-ownership model, preferably along with a leasing or power purchase agreement model, for residential Solar PV installations.*
