Solarize Huntington

Solarize Huntington is a group purchasing program that uses a tiered pricing structure, community educational events and outreach, and a competitively-selected installer to reduce the installed cost of solar. As more residents sign on to go solar through Solarize Huntington, the installed cost for all participants goes down.

More solar means more savings

Homeowners in Huntington that participate can either directly purchase a system or enter into a lease or a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the selected installer. Under a lease or PPA, the installer owns, operates, and maintains the system and the homeowner pays for the electricity generated by the system at a pre-determined rate. Under the lease or PPA option, the installer will offer a discount or cash back as higher tiers are reached.

Request for Proposals for Solar Installer

The NYSolar Smart Team will be releasing the Request for Proposals (RFP) for solar installers shortly. Proposals will be reviewed by the Steering Committee, made up of representatives from CUNY, the Advisory Committee on Energy Efficiency, Renewables, and Sustainability (ACEERS), the Town of Huntington, and technical experts. Several installers will be selected to interview with the Steering Committee and an installer will be chosen following the interviews.

Upcoming Events

During the Fall and winter of 2014, there will be “Solar 101” educational sessions, a booth with local volunteers at festivals and markets, and opportunities to meet the selected installer. Stay tuned for a calendar of events.
