NYS Solar Permits
CUNY, in a collaborative effort under the NY-Sun Initiative, worked with NYSERDA, NYPA and municipalities across the state to develop a streamlined solar permit form for small-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems. The NYS Unified Solar Permit was based upon the Long Island Unified Solar Permit Initiative (LIUSPI) as well as the Solar America Board for Codes and Standards’ national best practices.
Municipal Incentives Available for Permit Adoption
Municipalities in Long Island that adopt the LIUSPI, and municipalities in the remainder of the state that adopt the NYS Unified Solar Permit are eligible for between $2,500 and $5,000, depending on population, through the New York State Cleaner, Greener Communities program to implement the new procedures. NYSERDA will accept applications through the existing program, PON 2721 until 4:00 PM Eastern Time on September 30, 2019, until funds are exhausted, or until the solicitation is revised by NYSERDA, whichever comes first.
