CUNY Researcher identifies possible link between Diabetes and Alzheimers

Chris Li , a Professor in the Department of Biology at the City College of New York, has identified a possible link between an Alzheimer's gene and the way insulin is processed. Li's lab found the link in their study of nematode worms. The link between diabetes and Alzheimer's has been known for some time. However, Li's work, published in the June 2012 issue of Genetics , is the first study to identify how this relationship may work. Researchers recognize that Dr. Li's study is an important early stage discovery that could lead to new ways of treating and preventing Alzheimer's. More information on the study and its implications is available on the BBC News website .
