The City College of New York
The City College of New York
Convent Avenue & 138th Street |
Located in upper Manhattan, The City College campus occupies 36 acres along Convent Avenue from 131st to 141st Streets in the St. Nicholas Heights neighborhood. Modern structures provide a striking contrast to the original neo-Gothic buildings, which have been designated as state and national landmarks. The surrounding neighborhoods are predominantly residential. CCNY’s Performing Arts facilities house a 750-seat proscenium theater, a 175-seat experimental theater and a 75-seat rehearsal studio workshop in addition to a scenery shop, costume shop and green room. The College’s athletic facilities are recognized as some of the finest in the metropolitan area. CCNY’s centerpiece is the Great Hall in Shepard Hall, a cathedral-scaled space that is the building’s showpiece. The Great Hall is 185 feet long, 89 feet wide and 63 feet high. It seats 1520 including the two balconies. It is a breathtaking space that lends itself to a variety of uses and themes with its huge ceiling-to-floor arched windows. It is easy to imagine grand ballroom scenes, elegant soirees and cocktail party film shoots. |
