Basic Transtheoretical Model Training (for Counseling Center & Health Services staff)
This 4-hour online course teaches the basic concepts and strategies needed to effectively use the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change (TTM) when working with clients. The course incorporates activities such as role-plays, knowledge checks, and a 25-item multiple-choice certificate test to further strengthen the concepts learned. The first 20 students to complete this course will receive a free copy of Changing for Good: A Revolutionary Six-Stage Program for Overcoming Bad Habits and Moving Your Life Positively Forward by James O. Prochaska, John Norcross, & Carlo DiClemente.
Certified Tobacco Cessation Specialist
The Tobacco Dependence Program of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), School of Public Health in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This comprehensive, interactive workshop includes training in tobacco control, nicotine addiction, medical consequences of tobacco use, treatment of tobacco dependence, program development and evaluation, and treating tobacco addiction with special populations such as those with mental illness and other addictions or young people. Participants can expect to leave the training competent to effectively treat patients for tobacco dependence and to provide other services that will help organizations to address tobacco use. This training fulfills the 42 credit hours of professional development training required for Certification as a Tobacco Dependence Treatment Specialist.
Quality Assistance Program and Campus Consultation by National Center for Tobacco Policy
Monthly phone conferences with the NCTP are an opportunity for expert consultation on your campus' specific tobacco-free policy concerns.
The campus visit provides an opportunity to meet with key individuals and/or groups in person to discuss tobacco-free policy issues, assess the campus environment and offer expert advise as you transition to a tobacco-free campus.
CUNY Systems Change: Integrating Brief Screening and Intervention for Tobacco Use
This half-day training will assist staff of health,
wellness, and counseling centers to integrate a short tobacco assessment and counseling protocol into their services and how to provide this service within the flow of a busy clinic.
Introduction and Advanced Tobacco Dependence Brief Intervention
This one-day training is designed to provide front line
staff at CUNY health, wellness, and counseling
centers with knowledge and skills in how to ask about
assess, and assist students, faculty, and other CUNY
employees to address their tobacco use. Topics to be
covered will include: how to integrate screening for
tobacco use in all clinical encounters; how to
effectively conduct brief tobacco dependence
counseling using the 5A’s; and providing information
on Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
