The OHRM Professional Development and Learning Management Office coordinates training and professional development opportunities designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of CUNY employees.

In 2011-2012, the CUNY Professional Development Program will offer a limited number of professional development opportunities at CUNY locations.  CUNY administrative professionals, non-managerial professional staff members, team leaders, supervisors, managers, and department directors may benefit from "workforce effectiveness" courses designed to enhance their professional skills.  In February, CUNY employees may take courses that introduce skills and techniques for improving communications and resolving workplace conflicts.  Throughout the year, courses will be offered for Microsoft Suite applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

In addition, the Professional Development Office continues to provide courses mandated by CUNY's human resources policies.  This year, courses in sexual harassment prevention will be provided for Campus Sexual Harassment Awareness and Intake Committee members and for CUNY managers and supervisors.  The On-line Workplace Violence Prevention Program was launched in 2011.

The Professional Development and Learning Management Office also serves as CUNY's "agency liaison" for the New York City Citywide Training Center (CTC).  The CTC, a unit of the New York City Department of Administrative Services (DCAS), offers a variety of programs and courses to New York City employees and CUNY employees may attend many of these courses. Programs and courses are offered in administrative and workplace effectiveness, communication skills, managerial and supervisory competencies, computer technology, office technology, auditing, procurement, and construction ("green") management.  The Professional Development Office also assists campuses in providing many of these courses on-site.

Administrative staff members may take courses that qualify them for the Citywide Training Center's Administrative Professionals Certificate. Procurement and auditing professionals may take courses leading to nationally recognized professional certifications. Facilities professionals may take Energy Management and Building Operations courses. And any CUNY employee may take a course or two to sharpen their professional "tool kit."

Mission

The mission of the Professional Development and Learning Management Office is to coordinate training and professional development programs that support University initiatives, assist in attaining organizational goals, and contribute to the professional and personal development of CUNY employees. CUNY faculty and staff occasionally may be asked to complete questionnaires and participate in focus groups to assist in determining university training needs.
