Classification and Compensation

The Classification and Compensation unit at CUNY establishes and implements job design and compensation plans that support the University's academic mission, are competitive, and are consistent with a policy of promoting Inclusive Excellence at CUNY. The unit:
- Supports College management in developing effective job and organizational designs that support their strategic goals, including assisting with reorganizations, acquisitions, and other large-scale changes involving employee groups
- Consults with College management to making decisions on employee pay strategies
- Maintains a Classification Plan consisting of civil service titles, job specifications, and other title information, as chartered under CUNY's Civil Service regulations and New York State Civil Service law
- Establishes and maintains standards for classifying jobs, both civil service and instructional
- Conducts audits and reviews of classification and pay throughout the University
- Provides training and support to College Human Resources professionals in classification and compensation issues
- Develops and administers University-wide pay programs, such as the Classified Managerial Pay Plan
- Conducts and participates in surveys to provide information to management on salary trends in the Higher Education industry.
